- Lot Description
Wooster, Austin C. (American/Western PA, 1838-1913), Washington County Farmscape, 1873/1875, oil on canvas, since relined, signed A C Wooster 1875 lower left corner in black, and Painted by Austin Wooster, Aug 10th 1873 in black on the verso, also appears to read Thos. Stevenson Farm in black along the stretcher - according to a late 19th century map that's included there was a large plot of land owned by T. Stevenson in the southeast corner of Smith Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, near the border with Mt. Pleasant Township - canvas 17.75 x 26.25 inches, in a newer wood frame 23 x 31 inches. Provenance: Dirk Soulis Auctions, September 2012, lot 280 (since repaired).In generally good condition, relined, some small areas of paint thinning; inpainting to the sky at the upper right corner and extreme right edge, also a circular section in the middle of the sky, and a small repaired tear above the small white building at the top of the hill on the left side.
