Kenneth Riley (1919 – 2015)
Cavalry Charge (1984)
oil on canvas
24 × 48 inches
signed lower left
Describing this painting the artist wrote, “Accounts of early wars often refer to the intimidating nature of a cavalry charge. To be in the direct path of a thundering mass of horse flesh and yelling riders caused many a foe to break and run. The same psychology has been applied to twentieth-century tank attacks. Although the result might be the same, the romance of elegant equine shapes would be missing.”
