Rocky Mountain Valley After Rain will be included in the
Albert Bierstadt Catalogue Raisonné. A letter from Melissa Webster Speidel, Director of the
Albert Bierstadt Catalogue Raisonné, will accompany the lot.
According to Bierstadt historian Melissa Webster Speidel, “Bierstadt traveled to the Rocky Mountains several times during his career. The scene is comparable in topography to
Wasatch Mountains, Utah with similar mountain peaks, prairie land and also a body of water. The Wasatch Range is a south-central part of the Rocky Mountains and it is possible that
Rocky Mountain Valley After Rain is a view of the Wasatch Range that Bierstadt would have seen on trips in 1863, 1871, 1873 and 1881.”
