Kaya Deckelbaum is a figurative sculptor. Her major medium is wire-mesh that is transformed into very expressive, distinct and varied art forms.
Kaya’s sculpture comprises the breadth of human moods, interactions, and spiritual themes. The transparency and shadows associated with her art add another dimension to the multi-faceted impressions seen in her novel creations.
To this end, Kaya presents individual, or groups of faces, and full body sculptures which stand alone, or are shown with other media such as driftwood or cloth. A novel lighting approach produces strong and exciting shadow forms, synergistic to the original figures.
