The Bobo people are an ethnic group with a population of just
over 100,000, who have lived in Burkina Faso for centuries.
Various Bobo masks are made out of leaves, fiber, and wood, and
each serves various purposes. Masks made out of wood, like the
one above, represent multiple spirits who protect the Bobo
people and are worn during ceremonies associated with
initiation, new crops, and funerals.
