Other Notes: Jack Levine was a renowned American realist painter and printmaker who created satirical work about modern American culture. 'Facing East' features sketches made by Levine during his numerous trips to Japan. Originally made in 1970, it is a portfolio of 2,500 editions with an introductory text by James A. Michener, a prominent 20th Century American author.
For this edition of 'Facing East' the four original lithographs were printed by The Bank Street Atellier, New York. The typography and original woodcuts were printed by Fequet et Baudier, Paris. The sketchbook was printed by Daniel Jacomet, Paris. The portfolios were executed by Adine, Paris. Printed by Maecenas Press - Random House, New York, 1970. Facing East is approximately 21 pages. Approximately 50 other loose lithographs of figures, mainly Geishas, inscribed, some with hand colouring. All with a little wear and tear to the paper, some slight creasing and a little loss of colour.
