With the longhand Germany, ours is the most valuable pre1908 mark, and certainly the rarest! The C.G. Schierholz & Sohn factory was originally established in 1816 by two brothers, Johann Karl Rudolf Heuäcker and Dr. Gottlob Ferdinand Heuäcker. Dr. Heuäcker died a year later and Johann took on Christian Gottfried Schierholz as a partner in 1817. In that year, the factory was granted an exclusive license for porcelain wares by the government of Schwarzburg-Sondehausen, which ruled the town of Plaue. These porcelain wares were HYGIOCERAMIC items, manufactured for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. In 1818 Johann Heuäcker left the partnership, leaving C.G. Schierholz as sole owner. Schierholz quickly made the transition to fine quality decorative hand decorated porcelain, producing some of the greatest examples of porcelain vases, compotes, and figural items in the storied decorated Meissen / Dresden tradition. In 1829, the manufactory was officially named C.G. Schierholz & Sohn, prospering over the next half century. Schierholz was further blessed in 1884 to employ their most outstanding modeler, Edmund Haase, who was responsible for outstanding figural designs, and the soon to be fabled Schierholz character beer steins. Haase had been trained as a sculptor at the Munich Academy of Art and his talents were so appreciated that he remained with Schierholz until his passing in 1914. Another modeler, Oskar Sieder, joined the firm in 1873 and worked with Haase to produce the majority of items in the custom stein product line.
