- Lot Description
William Mellor (United Kingdom, 1851-1931) oil on canvas painting of a landscape with a rocky creek and several cascading waterfalls in foreground with sheep grazing in the tree lined hill background and bird flying in atmospheric sky. Signed lower right: "William Mellor". Illegibly inscribed in script verso: "(?) Gill Yorkshire" and stamped to cavas verso: "G. Rowney & Co. / London, W. / Quality B". Three gum labels verso including Furniture retailers and Artist bio. Sight: 35 1/4" H x 27 1/4". Framed: 42 1/4" H x 34 1/2" W
Condition
Overall good condition. Horizontal tear to canvas upper left quadrant 4"L, localized craquelure and crazing, scattered areas of noticeable frame abrasion, surface grime throughout commensurate with age and use.
