Southern Federal Pembroke table attributed to Alexandria, Virginia, c. 1790, mahogany with yellow pine, white pine and poplar secondary. Plain rectangular top with hinged leaves over a single dovetailed and beaded drawer having the original brass bail pull, over four square tapered legs with interior chamfered corners, joined by rectangular X form stretchers. Handwritten label to one gate frame, "RRR is generously taking care of this table for me-January 1934 Lucy L. Stabler". Documented by Frank Horton, Luke Beckerdite and Derita Williams for the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts in 1982, photo ref. # S-11575. MESDA file notes the table originally came from the Stabler Leadbeater House, Alexandria, Virginia, circa 1792. 28 1/2"H x 19 1/2"W (39 1/2" W with leaves extended) x 30 1/2" D.
Overall very good condition. 11" shrinkage crack and scattered stains, including ring stains 1 1/2" and 5" diameter to top. 1 missing glue block to underside. Old varnish remnants to rear legs. Moldings appear intact other than some minimal losses to cockbeading on drawer. Minor signs of wear and shrinkage scattered throughout.
