Tennessee or Southern Kentucky Sheraton Sugar Chest in original surface. Cherry primary wood, poplar secondary. Rectangular hinged top with a flat rectangular molding over a dovetailed case with divided compartments, inset into a base with single drawer, case resting on ring turned and spiral reeded legs ending in tapering spike feet. 39"H x 25"W x 18 1/2"D. Hinges replaced and battons for the top added as well as the lower drawer altered in the late 1800s (the drawer was rebuilt with nailed joinery; the original drawer front and knobs retained). Inlaid kite shaped escutcheon missing. Lacks key. Other scattered minor shrinkage, abrasions, and wear. Some grime and wear to legs.
