Nine (9) Civil War related items, pre and post war. 1st item: one (1) 1863 Stonewall Jackson Memorial medal or service medallion, white metal, 50 mm. Note: Struck in Paris before the end of the Civil War from dies by Armand Caque, this medal was apparently funded by Confederate subscriptions and appeared in Richmond in 1865. In the 1890s, the Savannah Ladies Auxiliary of the Confederate Veterans of America sold many of them to benefit disabled Confederate Veterans. Housed in double-sided ebonized round frame under glass. Remaining items: one (1) pre-war W. M. I. Cadet button, for Western Military Institute, "Scovill Mfg. Co." to back; two (2) United Confederate Veterans items, a coat button and a lapel pin (housed in shadowbox, not shown), noted as descending from Capt. George W. Muir from Lexington, KY; one (1) Envelope stamped for Louisville KY Confederate Veterans Tenth Reunion, addressed to a Mr. W. J. Williams of Fruitvale, TN, with receipt from Fairbanks Morse & Co., 1900; four (4) coat buttons, three with eagle design including two Horstmann Bros. buttons, and one Oehms Acme Hall with Florida design. All items ranging from 1/2" dia. to 6 1/4" H x 5 1/4" W x 3/4" D including shadowbox. All mid 19th to early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Southern collection. Stonewall Jackson medallion from the collection of military button expert Harry Ridgeway.
Medallion in excellent condition. Other items overall good condition. Light oxidation to some buttons. Envelope with toning, creasing.
