1st item: FAUVEL-GOURAUD, Frances. Phreno-Mnemotechny; or The Art of Memory. New York & London: Wiley and Putnam, 1845. 9 5/8" H x 6 7/8" W (Octavo). 566 pages. First Edition. Original brown blind stamped cloth boards, title in gilt-gold on spine. Frontispiece engraving of Fauvel-Gouraud, daguerreotype by Anthony & Edwards, engraved by Thomas Doney, N.Y. Inscribed "Presented By F. S. Harding to F. J. Harding", in pencil, and illegible inscription dated "July 1845", in black ink, first page. Includes advertisement for Fauvel-Gorand's lectures, back of book. 2nd item: The Sceptic's Manual, or Christianity Verified. Philadelphia: J. F. Watson, 1811. 5 3/4" H x 3 1/2" W. 282 pages. First edition. Tan leather board with title and gilt-gold lines on spine. Frontispiece engraving depicting an older man and a younger man against a landscape with "He that heareth reproof getteth understanding." quote from Proverbs 15:32 below image. Inscribed "Aaeliah Jennings 1815" in black ink, back of front cover. Provenance: the estate of Sarah Hunter Hicks Green, formerly of Historic Devon Farm, Nashville, Tennessee.
