A pair of large yellow ground Famille Rose porcelain ginger jars with polychrome decoration depicting an outdoor festival. The scenes feature figures seated at and around a table under a pagoda, figures with musical instruments, and other figures in a procession holding kites and a large figural dragon kite or banner. The domed lids with figural landscape and insect decoration. 17 1/4" H. Chinese, 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Thelma Schlicher, by descent from the estate of U.S. Ambassador Ronald Schlicher, Brentwood, TN. Note: Tennessee native Ron Schlicher entered the foreign service in 1982, working primarily in the Middle East. He returned to TN after retiring in 2011. Among his many diplomatic roles, he served as Ambassador to Cyprus, U.S. Principal Deputy Assistant Coordinator of Counterterrorism, and was director of the Iraq Task Force during the 2003 war with Iraq.
PROVENANCE:
Both overall good condition with no chips or cracks. The lids with minor scattered rubbing and losses to the edges and firing flaws.
