- Lot Description
Kentucky Sheraton signed chest of drawers, cherry primary, poplar secondary, consisting of a slightly overhanging top above flanked by tombstone inlaid and carved stiles; above three graduated dovetailed and scratch beaded drawers flanked by half-round turned pilasters, base molding with inlaid arrows and other geometric motifs; paneled sides with chipped carved, incised, and inlaid eagle decoration at the top; all above tall turned Sheraton feet. Inscription to two areas (right upper drawer and lower drawer) "Samuel Alspach" or "Alspauh", possibly the owner. Additional inscription to back of top drawer reading "David Boyer .... with his hand in the year AD 1836". 48 3/4" H x 42" W x 21 1/2" D. Circa 1835.
Condition
Overall good condition with old refinish, scattered abrasions and separations. Evidence of old backsplash due to a gap to the back of the top. Wood pulls are old replacements; drawer supports are built up and drawer runners are replacements.
