Two (2) small oil on canvas European landscapes depicting bridges, including an oil on board by Joseph Newman (American, 1890-1979) with Lucien Lefevre-Foinet stamp en verso, measuring 8 1/2" H x 6" W in a 10" H x 12" W giltwood frame, and one attributed to Eugene Jacquet (French, late 19th-early 20th century) measuring 5" H x 8" W in a Louis XV style giltwood frame, 11 1/2" H x 15" W.
Note: Joseph Newman attended the Pratt Institute and the Adelphi College Art School, and served in the U.S. Army during first World War. Afterwards, he traveled and painted in Europe. He returned to New York in the mid 1920's, and helped co-found The Fifteen Gallery in Manhattan. Newman painted a broad variety of subjects including genre scenes, landscapes, figurative works, and equestrian subjects. He worked in various styles ranging from academic realism to a looser, post-impressionist approach, and exhibited frequently at the Brooklyn Museum, The National Academy, The Carnegie Institute, The Whitney and The Society of Independent Artists. He was a member of the L.C. Tiffany Foundation, The Salmagundi Club, and the Rockport Art Association.
Both paintings in excellent condition, recently cleaned, and in newer frames, also in excellent condition.
