George III Sheraton mahogany long case or tall case clock with string inlay throughout and pine secondary. Bonnet with a swan neck pediment supported by two front ring-turned columns, enclosing a cream painted oval dial signed W.Hart Pelham Street Nottingham, for William Hart, with a Roman numeral chapter ring, subsidiary seconds, spade hands, arched calendar aperture, and a painted gilt trimmed oval reserve at the top depicting a blackamoor riding a lion, and painted garland of roses. The rectangular trunk has chamfered corners and the door is fitted with a barometer aperture, also signed W. Hart Nottingham, the whole resting on bracket feet. String inlay throughout. 30 day brass works with bell. 101" H (8 ft. 4") x 21" W x 9" D. Circa 1800.
The case is in very good condition with scattered abrasions and shrinkage. Back upper panel replaced and a couple of horizontal planks added near the base for reinforcement. Dial in overall good condition with light overall craquelure. Retains the pendulum and weights. Pendulum guide is missing. Brass works not tested or guaranteed. The barometer is not functional and the mercury tube is not present.
