First Edition (Edition G of 385 copies) of Henry Miller's Insomnia or the Devil at Large portfolio, Loujon Press, Albuquerque, 1970. Signed by Miller and dated "May 1st, 1970" in colophon. Book is a facsimile of Miller's handwritten reflections regarding his wife, gathered in comb binding, wrapped in boards with original foil papers; housed in original wooden box with sliding cover on which is a photo of Miller and wife, lined with foam to hold the book within. Also, 12 color photolithographs (22x17") of Miller's artwork laid in, along with 3 uncut sheets of the cover photograph of Miller and wife Hoki, as well as a signed photo of Lou Webb, and personal correspondence. Jon Edgar Webb together with wife Louise "Gypsy" Webb founded Loujon Press in New Orleans, publishing the literary magazine "The Outsider" out of their French Quarter apartment which featured contributions by Charles Bukowski, Jack Kerouac, and Allen Ginsberg, among others. Funded by original art produced and sold by Lou, Loujon Press soon published two books of poetry by Bukowski, and two original books by Miller. This copy is from the collection of a personal friend of Lou "Gypsy" Webb, from Nashville. Jon and Lou moved to Nashville in the spring of 1971, with the intention of relocating their base of operations for both The Outsider publication and their specialized printed pieces. Jon became ill and died soon after, on June 9, 1971, and Lou moved back to New Orleans. Included in the lot are snapshots of Webb and friends along with bits of correspondence from Webb; a signed 8x10 photo of Webb posing with Miller's "Insomnia" book; and a July 18, 1971 newspaper page about Jon Webb from The Tennessean after his death. Box - 24" x 19"; 12 Artwork Sheets - 22" x 17"; Book - 12" x 9".
Overall very good condition; 4 of the 12 Lithos have 1/4" discoloration to one edge; the 3 uncut photo sheets have water discoloring to bottom, extending into image.
