HELEN KELLER'S JOURNAL 1936-1937, Garden City, New York: Doubleday, Doran & Company. 1938. Hardcover, stated First Edition. 8vo, 313pp, Inscribed on FFEP "To Pearl / With grateful memories / of her sweet hospitality / Sincerely / Helen Keller / October [24]th 1939" (possibly Pearl S. Buck, with whom Keller had an ongoing friendship). Publisher's original red cloth boards with gilt-stamped cover and spine, deckle fore-edge; dust jacket is present albeit missing front interior flap. Also included is a letter dated February 29, 1944 sent from Helen Keller regarding fundraising for the American Foundation for the Blind; with facsimile signature. Note: Records of the correspondence from Pearl S Buck to Helen Keller can be found online. One begins, “I have just this morning finished reading the book you gave me. I cannot tell you how I value it, not only because you gave it to me, and inscribed it with your own hands, but also because it records such...”
Book in Good Condition, evenly toned pages, front cover and FFEP show slight dampstaining; previous owners' bookplate pasted inside cover; DJ missing front interior flap, chips along spine and edges.
