1st item: Slave receipt, recording $425 received from Daniel Montgomery for "Polly aged about 16 and George aged about 12 years," sold by John Fitzhugh, dated July 22, 1823, Fairfax County, Virginia. The purchaser was likely Daniel Montgomery of Sumner County, Tennessee, born to William and Jane McMillan Montgomery in 1789, died Sumner County, 1855), who engaged as a surveyor and owned farms in Sumner, Henry, Obion and Weakley Counties; he also operated a whiskey distillery at Shackle Island in Sumner County. 2nd item: 6-page listing of property sold from the estate of William Montgomery, with several items sold to Daniel Montgomery including a folding table, a bedstead, books, sugar, coffee, and wagon saddle. Dated Oct. 22, year not listed, but likely 1835/1836. 3rd item: Estate listing for Ava Fawley, Lawrence County, 1824. 4th item: Land indenture between Henson Grove of Maury County and James Gibson of Bedford County for land in Wayne County, dated 1823. 5th item: Land indenture between Samuel Duval of Williamson County and Davidson County regarding land in Davidson and Dickson Counties, 1827. 6th item: Dated 1823-25 list of names and dollar amounts. Old note on back states it is related to Wilson County. 7th item: 1827 letter to Mr. John B. Hubbard Gibson Co., TN from niece E.H. Flint of Cincinnati. 8th item: partial 1852 Almanac listing Government and Court officials of Tennessee and Alabama, plus ads for several Fayetteville, Tennessee businesses. Also included is a partial supplement to the 1852 Hill's Almanac listing civil officers of Lincoln County and 1851 vote totals for the Governor's race in all 3 divisions of Tennessee. 9th item: Envelope addressed to James Crockett of Williamson County. 10th item: Note from Zach Talley to Captain James McKain of Station Camp (Sumner County). 11th item: 5 page front and back history of the Peyton Family of Station Camp, TN, handwritten by "Grandpa Balie Peyton" to his grandson and dated 1876. 12th item: A History Davidson County, Tennessee, With Illustrations and Biographical Sketches of its Prominent Men and Pioneers by W.W. Clayton, Philadelphia: J. W. Lewis & Co. 1880. First edition. 499 pages. Profusely illustrated with maps, steel engravings, and views. Previous owner has written name several times in the front, "R.A. Longhurst." 12" H x 9 1/4" W x 2 5/8" D.
All items encapsulated or housed in plastic sleeves, with expected age related condition issues: toning, fading, light foxing, discoloration, small tears and losses. 1828 indenture: separations and tape residue at fold lines. Almanac fragile with foxing and corner/edge losses. Full separation to 1823-25 name/price listing. Crockett envelope extremely fragile with several losses, backed with linen. 12th item: Partially rebound, lacks title page and has significant chipping to early pages including the engraving of the state Capitol, plus some old tape repairs.
