Hollywood photograph archive related to George Hurrell (American, 1904-1992), acclaimed portraitist to the stars, including images from his "Portfolio I" and ephemera from "Portfolio III". 1st-5th items: Five (5) black and white signed and numbered gelatin silver prints of portraits of Hollywood stars published in "Portfolio I" by Creative Art Images, Inc., Los Angeles, 1979; subjects include (1) Clark Gable, (1) Jean Harlow, (1) Joan Crawford, (1) Katharine Hepburn, and (1) Bette Davis. All signed "Hurrell" lower right and numbered "13/25" lower center. Images: 13" H x 10 1/4" W. Sheets: 14" H x 11" W. 6th-8th items: Three (3) black and white photographic prints on Kodak paper of portraits of Hollywood stars, including one (1) portrait of Shirley Temple, inscribed "Fashion-Shirley Temple 1937" in pencil and "1938" in pen, en verso; one (1) portrait of Mae West, inscribed "1941" in pen, en verso; and one (1) portrait of Jane Russell, inscribed "1941" in pen, en verso. All with Hurrell Photograph stamp, signed "George Hurrell", and inscribed with subject's name in pen, en verso. Images ranging from 9 3/8" H x 7 1/2" W to 9 5/8" H x 7 3/4" W. Sheets: 8" H x 10" W. 9th-10th items: Two (2) black and white photographic prints, including one (1) portrait of Allan Rich, signed and dated in print "Hurrell '80", inscribed "To Wayne - Lots of Luck Allan 83" in blue to upper margin; and one (1) image of Salvador Dali before the entrance and display window of Allan Rich Galleries. Rich image: 9 3/8" H x 7 3/8" W; Dali image: 7 1/4" H x 7 3/8" W. Sheets: 8" H x 10" W. 11th-18th items: Eight (8) ephemera items from "Portfolio III" published by Creative Art Images, Inc., Los Angeles, 1979, including one (1) certificate of authenticity, three (3) authenticity/informational booklets, one (1) listing of technical data on each photo, one (1) copy of handwritten notes on Hurrell by French art critic Pierre Restany, one (1) copy of typed letter signed and written by Doublas Fairbanks, Jr., and one (1) page of quotes about Hurrell by various celebrities. Lot also includes four (4) copies of "George Christy The Great Life", an article about the photography of George Hurrell from The Hollywood Reporter's July 27, 1979 issue; two (2) copies of four-page spread "George Hurrell" from Palm Springs Life December, 1990 issue and one (1) cover from this issue; two (2) copies of a magazine advertisement for "George Hurrell Retrospective" at The Palm Springs Desert Museum; two (2) Allan Rich business cards with handwritten inscriptions; and one (1) issue of Daily Variety, Vol. 199 No. 26, from April 11, 1983. All items contained within cloth book portfolio case with ribbon tie closure labeled "Hurrell" to front. Case: 15 1/8" H x 12 1/8" W x 1 3/8" D.
1st-5th items: All prints with minor toning to edges. Images of Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis have minor tears to edges, largest measuring 3/8" L. 6th-8th items: All prints with minor scattered creasing and wear to edges. 9th-10th items: Both in overall very good condition. 11th-18th items: All items with minute creasing to corners. All other ephemera items with scattered minute creasing; one Palm Springs Life article with loss to edges; Daily Variety newspaper with creasing to corners.
