Francisco Rodon (Puerto Rico,1934-2023), "Teresa," woodcut on paper head and shoulder portrait of a dark haired woman. Signed, titled and numbered 12/75 in pencil lower margin. Matted under glass in a plain black wood frame. Old Chicago framing label en verso. Sight - 18"H x 11 5/8"W. Frame - 25 1/2"H x 18 1/2"W.
Biography: Francisco Rodon was named Puerto Rico's most important 20th century painter at the Expo 92 World's Fair in Seville, Spain, and has been called the father of modern portraiture in his home country. He studied in Mexico, France and Spain, including at the Academia de San Fernando. He was known for his portraits, especially those depicting important cultural figures of his era.
Overall very good condition with light toning throughout; a couple of small creases upper right corner and a couple of spots of toning in the same area. Paper is taped to mat with approx. 5" strips at each side. Losses and tape residue at each of the 4 corners. Paper covering the back has some dampstaining that does not affect the work itself.
The collection of Sheila Eckenberg, by descent from her aunt, Doris Cox, of Chicago.
