- Lot Description
18th Century British or Dutch Colonial quadruple chair back settee, possibly rosewood, with joined yoke-shaped and foliate carved rails above four vasiform splats with cutout design alternating with figure eight entwined dividers, scrolling solid armrests, above a deeply scalloped and beaded skirt. Five front cabriole legs with carved volutes, terminating into ball and claw feet, with two splayed rear feet. The seat and outside of arms are covered with orange and gold plaid upholstery. 40" H x 69" W x 22" D. Possibly South African, circa 1765.
Condition
Both arms with wood shrinkage at joints, the right arm with additional wood shrinkage, and a few old repairs. Loss to carving on the volute of one handrest. The original seat was likely cane. Upholstery with light wear and staining.
