1st item: East Tennessee, Sullivan County, machine pieced and applique quilt with rounded corners. A unique rendition of the Coxcomb & Currants pattern consisting of eight medallions within a meandering flowering vine border emanating from four flowering pots on each side, all on a white ground and worked in solid blood red and dark green cotton fabrics. Fine oak leaf and tulip stitching throughout with Greek chain stitch embroidery for currant stems. Unusual faced edging or binding. 83 1/2" x 109 1/2". Circa 1880's. 2nd item: East Tennessee split oak buttocks basket with small tight weavers. 7 1/2" H x 10 1/2" W x 8 1/2" D. Late 19th century.
1st item: Scattered staining throughout. Colors remain vibrant with one very slight area of bleeding to one corner. Unwashed condition, staining that follows the quilting lines. Pencil lines visable in some areas.
2nd item: Old patina with losses to weavers around the rim, the body around the handle, and the base.
