- Lot Description
Elmer Boyd Smith (American, 1860-1943) oil on canvas (mounted to board) painting titled "Woman Resting," head and shoulder portrait of a peasant woman with lowered eyes, wearing a headscarf, before an indistinct background. Unsigned. Label en verso for Sessions Hootsell American Paintings, Natchez, MS with title and artist information. Parcel gilt and painted molded frame. Sight: 14" H x 10" W. Frame: 18 3/4" H x 14 1/4" W.
PROVENANCE: Private Nashville collection, acquired from Sessions Hootsell, Natchez, mid 20th century.
Condition
Overall good condition. Canvas has been mounted to a board and has some buckling at lower edge, with minimal paint loss lower left corner. Frame has scattered wear and losses to painted areas of frame.
