Five (5) piece assembled English tea set with Mappin & Webb Old Sheffield plate crested tray. 1st-5th items: Tea set with lobed bodies, melon and leaf finials; includes a kettle with removable stand and burner, teapot, coffeepot, creamer, and waste bowl. Creamer and waste bowl with crest reading "Nunquam Non Paratus" faintly stamped to bodies. Teapot, coffeepot, stand & burner with varying crests or heraldic marks to bodies, with imagery including a lion, stag, and castle. All hallmarked for Sterling. Burner & stand: hallmarked for Benjamin Smith II, London, 1831. Creamer & waste bowl: hallmarked for Joseph II & Albert Savory, London, 1834. Teapot: hallmarked WS (possibly William Southey) London, 1856. Coffeepot: hallmarked WE (possibly William Eaton) London, 1842. Kettle: hallmarked for Henry Wilkinson & Co, Sheffield, 1837. Range from 4 3/4" H to 12 1/2" H (including kettle stand.) 6th item: Mappin & Webb footed silverplate tray with gadrooned border, scrolling foliate and shell decoration to edges and handles. Armorial crest with banner reading "Non Inferiora Secutus." Tray stamped with maker's marks to center underside edge, and leaf mark to underside of one handle. 23 3/4" H x 17 1/2" W. Total 130.11 weighable troy ounces. All items second quarter or mid-19th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Delores Farr, Signal Mountain, TN.
Overall good condition. Scattered minor dents, mainly to coffeepot and kettle on stand, largest 3/4" L to kettle. Kettle with 1/2" L soldered repair on upper body. Handle loose on teapot. Surface scratches, primarily to tray. Tray possibly replated.
