Collection of 3 rare political cartoons from the administration of President Andrew Jackson (1829-1837). Includes "Troubled Treasures," an 1833 satire against Jackson's plan to revoke the charter of the Second National Bank of America and Henry Clay's resistance (13 1/8" x 9 5/8"); "A Political Game of Brag," an 1831 satire of the Banking controversy depicting Jackson playing poker with Clay, John C. Calhoun, and William Wirt (14" x 11"); and "On the Way to Arabay," another National banking related cartoon, circa 1836, depicting Jackson, Martin van Buren, and Nicholas Biddle; the title is a response to Jackson's controversial comment that he would rather live in a country like Arabia than one like the United States where an institution as powerful as the Bank existed (14 1/2" x 11").
All items encapsulated (not laminated) in protective plastic sheeting, with expected toning, light fading, scattered edge chipping and creasing, some possible trimming to margins. Troubled Treasures: 3 tiny holes, some fading, small stains upper margin. Game of Brag: Some light grime and staining to upper edge. Arabay: 4" tear at left edge extending into image, grime and creasing.
Estate of Gertude S. Caldwell, Nashville.
