1st Item: Kevin Red Star (American, b. 1943) bust-length monotype on Arches paper portrait of an American Indian in a ceremonial headdress and face paint, 1984. Signed and dated lower right. With hand-in-square blind stamp lower center. Housed under glass in a distressed burlwood frame with blue and brown triple mat and black reveal. Sheet: 30" H x 22 1/4" W. Framed: 35" H x 28 3/4" W. Biographical note: "Kevin Red Star was born in 1943. He grew up on the Crow Reservation in Southern Montana. In the early 1960s, he was chosen to be in the first group of students at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe. After graduating, Kevin Red Star continued his studies at the San Francisco Art Institute before returning to Montana in 1967. In 1974, IAIA invited him back as their first Artist-in-Residence. Throughout his career as an artist, Kevin Red Star has had over 100 large scale exhibitions and participated in shows across the globe, including Paris, Tokyo, China, New York, Washington DC, California and Montana. Kevin currently has a studio in Roberts, Montana, where he continues to paint and create artwork." (Source: Yellowstone Art Museum). 2nd item: Acrylic on canvas painting depicting an American Indian man with multicolored clothing and headdress and set against a red landscape with green sky, 1984. Illegibly signed, possibly "D Man," and dated lower right. Housed under plexiglass in a modern white frame with cream and brown triple mat. Sight: 19 3/4" H x 19 3/4" W. Frame: 22” H x 22" W.
1st item in overall very good condition. Minor toning to sight area. 2nd item in overall very good condition.
