- Lot Description
Mid 19th Century French Model 1822 Light Cavalry Saber, made at the French arsenal in Châtellerault in 1861. Numbered 930 on the hilt, it features a 36" curved blade with both wide and narrow fullers, marked on ricasso with French proof marks, and on the spine of the blade: "Manufre d'armes de Chât"t Mars 1861 Cav rie L re M le 1822", (manufactured at the arsenal at Chatellerault, March of 1861, Light Cavalry Model 1822). With brass hilt and leather covered wire bound grip, retains its steel scabbard (also numbered 930, and hallmarks), with single suspension ring. Blade 36" L. Overall 43 1/2" L. Accompanied by a custom wooden display stand decorated with laurel and leaves, 26" W x 8 1/2" H x 6 1/2" D.
Condition
Slight general use marks, brass with patina; scabbard with even, dark patina.
