Artist: Gene Davis Title: Black-Red-Orange Date: 1958 Medium: Oil on canvas Size: 12 1/4 10 inches (31.1 25.4 cm) Notes: Signed ﾑGene Davisﾒ and dated on the left edge of the canvas (visible on the reverse) and signed and titled on the stretcher, with label from Charles Cowles Gallery, Inc., New York. Gene Davis was a central member of the Washington Color School movement in the 1950's and 60's. The year this work was painted, 1958, marks the beginning of his work with colorful vertical stripes. Provenance: collection Jan Cowles.
