churn, light olive green speckled alkaline glaze, two looping tail strap handles to one side, lug handle to the other, stamped five near upper strap handle, incised line at shoulder, collared rim, lid shelf, circa 1900, 18 in.; tall storage jar, salt glaze exterior, green alkaline glaze interior, thick applied tailed strap handles at shoulders, inscribed "5" at shoulder and incised line, flared rim, lid ledge, attributed to the Boggs family, late 1800s, 18-3/4 in.; salt glaze over Albany slip glazed jug, "bullet" form, tight strap handle from shoulder to short straight spout, incised line at shoulder, late 1800s, 13-1/2 in.

Note: In the catalog description from Shaping Traditions: Folk Arts in a Changing South, John Burrison, University of Georgia Press, 2000, pg. 129, cat. no. 281, Burrison writes, "The second loop handle near the bottom to help facilitate emptying is characteristic of Alabama churns", for cat. no. 282, Burrison writes, "This pieces displays an unusual glaze combination used by some Alabama potters", and for cat. no. 283, Burrison writes, "The continuous 'bombshell' slope from neck to shoulder is typical of later Alabama jugs."

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
