- Lot Description
(American, 1837-1926)
Port of Vera Cruz, Mexico, 1884, signed and dated lower left "TMoran 1884", oil on canvas, 20 x 30 in.; original fine carved gilt wood and composition frame, 34 x 44 in.
Note: In March 2012, a new record was set by Brunk Auctions for a Thomas Moran watercolor with the sale of Cliffs of Green River-Wyoming Territory, which sold for $1,700,000. The provenance of that watercolor could be traced back to the artist and was documented through a photograph of the painting in the home of the current consignor's forbears, circa 1895. It was also noted in an early family inventory. This painting comes from the same collection and was likely acquired around the same time as Cliffs of Green River.
Condition
original stretchers and canvas, crackle, surface dirt, some alligatoring canvas verso, one tiny area with a wax or glue patch at center, tiny area of consequent retouch recto, two pin head sized areas of paint loss at lower right and lower eft corners; frame with minor wear commensurate with age, cracking, scattered small repairs

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
