James Sprunt (1846-1924) was a major figure in Wilmington from the Civil War until the 1920s, he was a cotton merchant, author and philanthropist; including a scrapbook of newspaper articles from the "Southport Leader," compiled by Mr. Sprunt and later Davis family members, housed in a custom made cloth chemise and slipcase in quarter leather over marbled boards, with gilt lettering and ruling, scrapbook is rubbed, good only, slipcase and chemise are as new; Tales and Traditions of the Lower Cape Fear 1661-1896 by James Sprunt, Wilmington: LeGwin Brothers, 1896, in contemporary three-quarter leather over cloth, four raised bands, gilt lettering and ruling, restored at an earlier date, hinges tender otherwise very good; Derelicts: An Account of Ships Lost at Sea in General Commercial Traffic, etc., Wilmington, 1920, in original gilt decorated cloth and matching slipcase, inscribed by Sprunt on the front free endpaper, extremities slightly rubbed otherwise very good in a very good dust jacket with minor wear at the extremities; James Sprunt: A Tribute from the City of Wilmington, Raleigh, 1925, with TLS from Sprunt tipped-in at front, very good; A Defence of the Revolutionary History of the State of North Carolina by Jo. Seawell Jones, 1834, Sprunt's copy with his ownership signature on the front free endpaper, hinges starting, wear at the extremities otherwise very good; Information and Statistics Respecting Wilmington, North Carolina, Wilmington, 1883, front board and preliminaries detached, wear otherwise good

Sales Tax: If you live in North Carolina and/or pick up from the auction house, and do not have a valid resale tax number on file with us, you MUST pay North Carolina state sales tax. The NC Sales Tax will not apply to any items being shipped out of state (unless the client resides in North Carolina) or to those clients with a resale tax number.
