attributed to the enslaved potter Harry, likely produced at the Pottersville Manufactory, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1830s, runny mottled light olive green alkaline glaze, ovoid form, wide shoulder and mouth, tapered lower body, four small slash marks and one large slash mark at front shoulder, likely 4 gallon capacity, applied rounded lug handles at shoulder, semi rounded rim, 12-3/4 in. height, 38-1/2 in. circumference

note: This jar was taken to the Greenville County Museum and compared to the signed Harry jar in their collection, we have a photograph on file of the comparison. The enslaved potter Harry's name appears in various period documents pertaining to the changes in ownership of the Pottersville Manufactory.
glaze voids and anomalies as made, 9-1/2 in. repaired hairline from rim to lower body, then splitting off laterally 4-1/2 in. one direction and 1-1/2 in. another direction, likely associated 4 in. by 4 in. restoration to handle and upper side of jar adjacent to hairline, 6 in. hairline headed up from base of jar, illuminated area down most of the side of jar from rim adjacent to previous hairline, another 6 in. hairline down from rim, small hairline in interior base, illumination of aforementioned conditions on exterior of jar, some illumination in interior

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
