- Lot Description
Branches American, 1819, four arm, five cup with scroll, floral and acanthus decoration, arms are attached with flowerhead nuts, marks for Andrew Ellicott Warner (Baltimore, Maryland, working 1805-1870), Baltimore assay marks, no monogram, 104.59 oz. T., 7 x 18 x 18 in., good condition. Notes: The candle branches were made to match a pair of Louis XV French silver candlesticks made by Marc II Lalanne of Bordeaux (1767-1768). The candlesticks had a heraldic device for the Hollingsworth family and the initials for Thomas & Ann Hollingsworth (married 1777). The candle branches were probably ordered by their daughter Annamarie and her husband John B. Morris. The candlesticks and the branches descended on the maternal side of the family to Nancy Howard de Ford Venable. The candlesticks and branches were offered as a set at Sotheby Parke Bernet, New York, April 12th, lot 85. In 1990 they were separated and sold at Sotheby's, New York, January 24th, the branches sold as lot 154. The branches are now married with lot 0725, a pair English silver candlesticks
