probably Massachusetts, 18th century, walnut with cherry with maple and white pine secondary, walnut front legs and stretchers, cherry rear legs and rear stretcher, frame with arched crest and scrolled arms set with a watered red wool upholstery, cabriole legs and pad feet with stretchers, 47-1/4 x 35 x 24-1/4 in.
Note: Colonial Williamsburg notes indicate there is a large spliced addition on top of proper right corner of crest at proper right stile, other wood putty fills and evidence of repair to frame with later tacking rail additions. Copy of Colonial Williamsburg notes accompany lot.
Illustrated in Barry Greenlaw, New England Furniture at Colonial Williamsburg, catalog no. 68, pg. 76-77. The original foundation upholstery for the chair was removed by Colonial Williamsburg in the 1960s, and was stored separately. It accompanies the lot.

formerly fitted with casters, now removed, break and repair at top of one rear leg, knee returns replaced, breaks and repairs at front toes (original material), upholstery in good condition overall with some scattered light soiling and minor discoloration, especially at center back
Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
