The Tall Ship Sierra Miranda at Full Sail, 1967, signed lower left "Montague Dawson" stamped verso "8751" and inscribed "Copyright Strictly Reserved" along with title, oil on canvas, 24 x 36-1/8 in.; modern gilt wood frame, 30-1/4 x 42-1/2 in.
Note: A fine full-rigger, The Sierra Miranda was built by the Scottish company, John Reid & Co, Port Glasgow for the Sierra Steamship Company - Thompson, Anderson & Co, Liverpool. She was registered at 1,888 tons gross and measured 80.7 meters. In 1906, she was sold to Andreas Meling of Stavanger, Norway. Then in 1921, she was sold to International Star Lines in Panama and renamed Maria Borges She foundered at her moorings at Hampton Roads, Virginia off Newport News in 1922.
Two paintings with the subject of the Sierra Miranda are listed in the 1967 Catalog of Copyright Entries published by the Library of Congress.

Sales Tax: If you live in North Carolina and/or pick up from the auction house, and do not have a valid resale tax number on file with us, you MUST pay North Carolina state sales tax. The NC Sales Tax will not apply to any items being shipped out of state (unless the client resides in North Carolina) or to those clients with a resale tax number.
