(18th century) Bust of Diana, unsigned, marble on marble socle, 34 in., grime, abrasions, chips to folds, socle with chips and cracks, black mineral spots evident on surface of marble. Notes: This bust is likely one of eight life-sized busts installed by Manning to define further the classical interior of Millford Plantation. It has descended in the family and the associated Millford Plantation.. Provenance: Purchased by Manning circa 1838 from Count Joseph Binda, Millford Plantation, South Carolina; Descended in family of John Lawrence Manning, Governor of South Carolina, 1852-1854, and builder of Millford Plantation, Pinewood, South Carolina
