American, circa 1982, burl redwood top, lacquered maple, Gabon ebony frame, set with four dovetailed drawers, scrolled legs on turned ball feet, chrome-plated hardware, signed at underside "Wendell Castle/1982" (Kansas/New York, 1932-2018), 28-1/2 x 38-1/4 x 38-1/4 in.

Born 1932, in Emporia, Kanasas. Lives in Scottsville, New York. and has been artist-in-residence at the School for American Crafts, Rochester Institute of Technology, since 1984. Attended University of Kansas (B.F.A. industrial design 1958, M.F.A. sculpture 1961). Taught at RIT (1963-69), State University of New York at Brockport (1969-1980), and the Wendell Castle School, which he operated 1980-88. Recipient, Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation grant (1972), National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships (1973, '75, '76, '88) and honorary doctorates, Maryland Institute College of Art (1979), SUNY Brockport (1997). American Craft Council Fellow (1986) and trustee (1986-91); member, National Museum of American Art Commission, Smithsonian Institution (1987-95); honorary trustee, Renwick Gallery (1990). Subject of numerous publications, including the monograph Furniture by Wendell Castle (Hudson Hills Press, 1989).

Shipping arrangements are made only after the invoice is paid. The payment for shipping is a separate charge from payment of your lots.
Sales Tax: If you live in North Carolina and/or pick up from the auction house, and do not have a valid resale tax number on file with us, you MUST pay North Carolina state sales tax. The NC Sales Tax will not apply to any items being shipped out of state (unless the client resides in North Carolina) or to those clients with a resale tax number.
