and Gilt Wood Marble-Top Pier Tables probably Italian, late 19th century, each with thick variegated marble top over a boldly carved frame, skirts with pierced shells and scrolled foliate ornament over a diapered and rosette-embellished frieze, legs set with finely carved dragons with long tails wrapping the leaf-carved legs, scroll and rosette-carved stretchers and hoof feet, 36-1/2 x 69 x 27-1/2 in., good condition overall with scattered surface wear and gilding losses, some chips and losses to carved ornament, other minor separations at laminations and scattered minor losses. Provenance: From the contents of Ochre Court, Newport, Rhode Island, August 12, 1981, lot 107 (provenance noted in catalog Robert Goelet); Estate of Charles Edward and Miriam Barr Mitchell, Woodlawn, Quinby, South Carolina
