late 19th/early 20th century, of varying size and form, with floral and animal themed stitching, including: four silk scent pouches, two archer's ring cases, one made of fabric encasing a cylindrical form that would contain the ring, the other, a hand-carved zitan wood dome with base affixed to a long strand finished with a deep teal fan pouch with fine gold thread stitching, 3 x 3-1/4 in. to 24 in.
Note: A “pouch,” or “hebao” in Chinese, is a kind of adornment of traditional Chinese clothing, used for carrying odds and ends by the ancient Chinese, something like today’s purse. They are usually made into various beautiful shapes, such as rotund, oblong, peach, ruyi and guava. In very early times, they were designed to suspend from belts, to carry money, small items, handkerchiefs. Many contained herbs as scented pouches. The integration of butterflies, flowers, insects, animals, plants melons, denoted good fortune, love, marriage, prosperity and longevity among others. With the evolution of clothing and incorporated pockets, these fine pieces of art slowly disappeared.

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
