- Lot Description
late 18th/19th century, "L'ÂÂtude et La Philosophie", after designs by Francois Remond and Louis-Simon Boizot, metal dial with Arabic numerals, set in gilt bronze case with hinged glass front and back panels opening to dial and works, surmounted by gilt eagle finial and flanked by two patinated and gilt bronze Classical figures with books in hand, on heavy rectangular black stone and gilt bronze base with rounded ends, on six feet, with pendulum, 22-1/2 x 27 x 7 in.
Note:The design elements of this clock are seen in museum examples (Versailles, Buckingham Palace, the Swedish royal collection, the Spanish royal collection) and in some other clocks that have come to market. These clocks share the same composition of seated figures, but have variations in the design of eagle finial, the decoration of the platform on which the clock dial rests, and the decoration of the marble plinth base.

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
