dial signed Christian Eby, Manheim, case attributed to George Dyer of Manheim, circa 1800, arched painted dial with moon phase and floral spandrels, seconds sweep, brass movement, set in a fine waisted cherry case, scrolled pediment with inlaid fylfot rosettes, large bold American Federal spread winged eagle inlay with barberpole surround, inlaid canted corners and door, barberpole inlaid box base with burlwood quarter fans and French feet, 96-1/4 x 19-3/4 x 10-3/4 in.
Milly McGehee's invoice includes a condition report that notes the clock "survives in remarkably good condition, with the original finials, hardware, dial (with one original hand), works, weights, and pendulum." Also accompanied by invoice from Allen Anderson Conservation for scattered tightening and repairs; also accompanied by invoice from Edward F. LaFond Jr. for cleaning and minor repairs to works, which also indicate "the moon phase and date trip mechanisms are very cleverly conceived and beautifully made" and that "this dial is the work of Christian Eby himself who was a dial painter of some accomplishment (his dials however, tend to crinkle and are hard to clean). The dial does show even crackle and other surface distress with typical minor losses at mounting posts and other scattered flaking and surface wear; two of the six foot facings are replacements, typical veneer cracks, shrinkage, and repairs
Kelly Kinzle;
Milly McGehee (accompanied by original invoice from 2014 for $65,000);
