Tall Case Clock
works by Simon Willard, Roxbury, Massachusetts, circa 1805, the arched hood set with original pierced fretwork, inlaid finial plinths and brass finials, the glazed door flanked by columnettes with brass stop-fluting, the waisted case with brass capitals, bases and stop-fluted quarter columns, inlaid door, quarter-fan inlaid base and ogee bracket feet, the arched painted dial signed "S. Willard", moon dial finely painted with a sailing ship with American flag, strawberry and floral spandrels, original saddleboard with several inscriptions (saddleboard and case a good match), 95 x 21 x 10-1/4 in.. Condition: dial paint with crackle, surface dirt and scattered flaking and losses including at calendar dial and spandrels, fretwork with one replaced rosette, some warping to box base and repair to facing at one corner, largely original feet with patches and repairs (one rear facing replaced, three other facings with patches), minor warping to case door.
