- Lot Description
probably New York, circa 1870s, exquisitely inlaid top with mother of pearl, brass, burlwood, and other exotic veneers centering a fine marquetry panel depicting a scene from Aesop's Fables, two small drawers mounted on a heavy swiveling adjustable brass pedestal, the brass mechanism likely patented by George W. Gates, set with griffin and lion's paw carved figured walnut legs, mounted on casters, 42 x 32-3/4 x 22-1/2 in.
Provenance: Purchased from Sharon B. Jorgensen Antiques, Boston, Massachusetts for $6,400, date unknown; for Property from the John B. Schorsch Collection
Condition
very fine quality and excellent condition, some color variation at outer banding at top, very minor losses to inset mother of pearl and brass lines on top, minor shrinkage cracks at legs, bruise at one corner of top with crack at underside, crack and possible restoration at one side lamination of foot, minor chip and loss at one knee return

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
