- Lot Description
stamped "A.L. Jewell / Waltham Mass", 19th century, copper and cast zinc, in the form of a horse leaping through an iron hoop, hammered sheet copper mane and tail, on modern metal stand, overall 19-3/4 x 31 x 16 in.
Provenance: Robert Wallin, Woodbury, Connecticut; to his daughter Kimberly Wallin; Skinner Auctions, November 18, 2022, lot 146; purchased from Jeffrey Tillou, Litchfield Connecticut
Note: Signed American weathervanes are rare. The example offered here is among a small number of signed weathervanes by A.L. Jewell, including a similar running horse conserved in the collection of the Art Institute, Chicago (acc. 2006.256).
Condition
heavily patinated surface and verdigris, iron hoop with rust and corrosion, belly with corrosion, separation and lifting at top of neck, visible solder at joints and edges, surface dirt and accretion

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
