scrimshawed horn with engraved date "1783", also "The Property of Jona(tha)n Tillinghast", many Revolutionary War era themes to include: imagery of George Washington exclaiming "Thus Let Tyrants Fall" beneath engraved lettering "His Exc(ellenc)y General Washington with the British Lyon (sic) at his feet", portrait of "Lady Washington" framed by tassels with what appears to be a bird in her left hand and berries in her right hand, house to the left of Lady Washington, possibly Mount Vernon, British Royal Coat of Arms (with lion atop replaced by a frightened cat), cityscape of New York across from detail of "Long Isl." and "Staton (sic) Island" with military fort across from Staten Island and nine ships heading upstream, cityscape of "Berlin" (very likely Berlin, Maryland which is modern-day Brunswick) shown along the "N. River" (Brunswick resides on the north branch of the Potomac River), 10-1/2 in. length; accompanied by documents discussing this horn with various authorities on the subject
Note: The documents accompanying this horn include a letter dated June 22, 1994 from researcher Dave Galliher which states "It would appear that you have the genuine thing. The nails, the bottom plug, etc., all look good and do not appear to have been replaced or tampered with." He goes on to mention that he recalls the owner having knowledge of the horn's provenance for the past 80 years.

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
