(Edgefield, South Carolina, b. circa 1800, d. after 1873) likely made at Lewis Miles Stony Bluff Manufactory, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850s, olive green alkaline glaze, thick glaze runs at side of body, possible finger marks in glaze at base edge, tilted ovoid form, two slash marks and possible indiscernible "7" or partial "L" in script at shoulder below neck, angled applied strap handles at shoulder, short curved neck, semi rounded rim, 17-1/2 in. tall, 46 in. circumference

note: The Greenville County Museum has a signed and dated Dave jug with "L7m" script below the spout, Lewis Miles middle initial was "J" therefore the reason for the inserted "7" is unknown. There is speculation as to whether there are indiscernible initials or script adjacent to the handle of this jar. We have printouts of the photos from the museum piece on file.
glaze voids and anomalies as made, surface abrasions and wear around the belly of jar, other minor glaze frits, 2 and 2-1/2 in. clay body chips to lower jar, 4 in. rim restoration that does not illuminate under black light, 6 in. "Y" shaped hairline down from rim past handle to shoulder, evident in interior, another 5 in. "y" shaped hairline down from rim mid jar, evident in interior, 5 in. firing hairline on lower body continuing on to base, illumination to exterior of jar possibly due to residue

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
