(Scottish, 1795-1875) Portrait of William Gillies, brother of John Gillies (1747–1836) a Scottish tutor, historian and man of letters), unsigned, oil on canvas, 28 x 36 in.; original gilt wood and composition frame crackle; framer with extensive losses; flaking, crackle, gime, some bloom, scattered retouch. Provenance: By tradition, this portrait was purchased by J.P. McQuillery in a yard sale. It was said the work had come from Struan House. It was later donated to Christ School

Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser’s risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges.
