South Carolina, circa 1800, removable dentil-molded cornice, upper case with glazed doors and adjustable shelved interior, lower case with fitted butler's desk with false double front, urn and leaf inlaid prospect door over three dovetailed long drawers set with original brasses, red cedar, white pine and other mixed secondary woods (possibly yellow pine and cypress), 95-1/2 x 49 x 23 in., feet replaced, otherwise good structural condition, scattered veneer patches and repairs including patches, cracks and repairs, door glazing and lock replaced, minor repairs at drawer beading, door glazing replaced,. Provenance: Congressman Thomas Lowndes (1766-1843) begat Charles Tidyman Lowndes (1808-1884) President of SC National Bank, begat Caroline Hampton Lowndes (Mullally), married to Dr Lane Mullally, owned Nathaniel Russell House, Charles Lowndes Mullaly (grandfather of consignor) 1898-1982, owned the People’s Building in Charleston and Cadillac dealership, owned tugboat business which government took over in World War II
