early 19th century, attributed to Thomas Seymour, urn finials, arched pediment, mirror with scrolled lyre bracket supports, shaped top surmounted by three glove drawers, brass rosette pulls, lower case with two short drawers over three graduated long drawers, segmented reeded corner columns terminating in turned and tapered legs, button feet, 79 x 40-1/2 x 22 in.
Note: This Boston dressing chest is closely related to examples illustrated in John & Thomas Seymour: Cabinetmakers in Boston, 1794-1816 by Vernon C. Stoneman (see pages 265-277). The distinctively reeded legs and bird's eye maple veneers are a close match to a Seymour dressing chest conserved by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (acc. 46.413). The overall form and lyre supports are nearly identical to another dressing chest held by Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (acc. RES.65.43), which also features similar segmented reedings.
in a fine state of preservation overall, later finials, later mirror plate and backboards, mirror plate has a small interior crack near top portion, top appears to have been reset with slight separation, proper right return with shrinkages, minor abrasions, tiny repairs, light shrinkages and other wear from age and use
